Participate in a prayer wheel workshop!
I’d love to bring my mobile prayer wheel studio to your birthday party, barbecue, or team-building afternoon, wherever! I bring the parts and process, you bring the hands and creativity, and we all walk away with unique, hand-built, sacred objects. Building and decorating your own prayer wheel is such a satisfying experience, and it’s really fun to see all the different designs folks come up with! I provide loving support, instruction, and assistance so that these workshops are accessible to children, the elderly, folks with disabilities, etc.
I have been leading recycling prayer wheel workshops in the Portland area for the past few years. Distinct from my Rainbow Solar Prayer Wheel design, these sturdy, fun, one-of-a-kind prayer wheels are made of upcycled cans and tins and used garage door rollers with found objects attached as weights to make them spin. We decorate them with vinyl sticker paper and anything else you can think of.
I always bring a big scroll of the Om Mani Padme Hum mantra to place inside the prayer wheel, and I also have blank scroll paper for folks to write their own wishes, dreams, and prayers on. Om Mani Padme Hum is a compassionate wish for the happiness of all beings. As the prayer wheels spin, those wishes radiate out to benefit the universe.
I provide vinyl sticker paper, miscellaneous treasures, and craft supplies to personalize and beautify your creations. The decoration step of the journey can be as simple or as baroque as each participant wants it to be. Glittery and fabulous, sleek and elegant, or hectic and wild, up to you! Let’s get creative and make meaningful, precious, art together.

A few years ago, when I wanted to make prayer wheels from recycled objects, I was really searching for a way to do that. I did some deep dives on the internet and finally came across a blog post of someone who made a prayer wheel using an altoids container, so that is how I discovered the method of making prayer wheels. A good friend of mine has a garage door repair company called RTM Access Control. I source used garage door rollers from him.
I was wondering about the best way to decorate the recycled prayer wheels when I came across an amazing Portland street vendor named Dave who decorates cans with vinyl sticker paper. His art is so inspiring. We have even collaborated on making prayer wheels using his art.
